COVID-19 Policy

Students and teachers need to be free from any COVID-like symptoms... here is a short questionnaire that needs to be considered each day before you come to JamSchool:

If you answer yes to any of these questions or if the status of any answer changes between now and the time of your class, please do not come to the school. A YES answer to any of these questions means you should take the self-assessment test online and likely self-isolate for 14 days or check-in with your family doctor or Telehealth to be safe. If you are unsure, please err on the side of caution as we can easily convert your lesson to Skype. Please contact us to let us know your situation as well.

Here are the self-screening questions:

  • Do you have a fever, new onset of cough, worsening chronic cough, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing?
  • Have you had close contact with anyone with acute respiratory illness or travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days?
  • Do you have a confirmed case of COVID-19, or have you had close contact with a confirmed case?
  • Do you have two (2) or more of the following symptoms: sore throat, runny nose/sneezing, nasal congestion, hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing, decrease or loss of sense of smell, chills, headaches, unexplained fatigue/malaise, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or nausea/vomiting?

If the answer to all these questions is NO all the way up to the day of class, then we are good to go!

(COVID-19 POLICY BELOW SUBJECT TO CHANGE OR BE MODIFIED AT ANY TIME)

Here is a general summary of our COVID-19 policy and procedures for in-person lessons at JamSchool:

We need your help - a culture of compliance - we are counting on you.

  • Masks are mandatory, with no exceptions. 3ply or N95 masks are recommended. It is important that masks are fitted properly.
  • Student arrival: Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before your lesson. The only exception is for students arriving by public transit. Otherwise, please remain in your vehicles until 5 minutes or less before your class starts. We have limited waiting room seating for students only.
  • Alice Street Band classes - Please wait outside or in your vehicles until the previous band has cleared out.
  • Alice Street Drum Room – One Student is allowed to wait in the drum room lobby, they must wear a mask and use hand sanitizer.
  • Washrooms - Only one washroom per location will be available to students, the other washroom will be for JamSchool staff only. If possible, please be sure to use your washroom at home before coming to JamSchool. This will cut down on its use.
  • Band classes are resuming, but all band signers require their own mics - we have several options for sale in our store starting at $40
  • Waiting rooms - Our waiting rooms at both locations will be restricted to students only at this time.
  • Wearing masks properly, covering your nose and mouth fully - a cloth mask must be at least three layers of fabric or more, no single layer scarves, bandanas or gaiters are allowed as they have been proven to be ineffective. N95 or 3-ply medical masks are preferred.
  • Wash hands frequently, and please use the hand sanitizer upon entering our buildings.
  • Shared studio instruments such as pianos will be cleaned before each Student uses them, and students will be asked to help wipe down the gear after each use, just as you would in a gym environment.
  • We are asking all students (with the exception of piano, amps, drums) to bring their own instrument each week. If you need to purchase or rent one, please contact us.
  • Illness - we have a zero-tolerance policy in place for students and teachers with any cold or flu-like symptoms. If a teacher develops a cold or flu, all of their lessons will shift to Skype until they are clear to return. For any student with a cold or flu, please contact us before 12:00 pm on your lesson day, and we can switch your class to Skype.
  • Snow day classes will automatically switch to Skype, and we will inform students by 2 pm on the day of the lesson.
  • The COVID questionnaire must be considered and answered through a self-check before each and every lesson.
  • In order to maintain accurate records of people entering our facilities for unscheduled visits (non-lesson times), a contact tracing form must be filled out.
  • Private singing students - we recommend that you purchase a "singers mask" and/or a mask with a clear window in the front to allow the teacher to see your mouth. Ask us about this as we have a number of links to share with you.
  • Bagpipe lessons will remain online for now.
  • Hybrid approach (please be flexible) - from time to time, changes in scheduling may happen which could result in lesson time changes or a location switch - we will do our best to give as much notice as possible
  • A cancelled lesson will convert to a Skype make-up, this can be changed back to an in-person by contacting us.
  • Pre-approval is required for parents/guardians to attend a lesson with their child.
  • A limit to 3 customers in our retail store at Hanlon Creek.
  • A limit to 4 students in the waiting room at Alice Street.
  • A limit to 1 student in the Drum Room Lobby waiting area
  • A limit of 10 students in the waiting room at Hanlon Creek.
  • Student entrance at Hanlon creek will now be through the theatre door only.
